Great News From Haiti…
It finally started! After long delays due to civil unrest and COVID, our Mobile Medical Unit in the mountains above Thoman has begun.
Amazing Story
Nate Grabill is an extraordinary man who has a passion for Jesus, missions, and medicine. He served in the U.S. military, then started his own construction company, and in his late 40’s decided he would go to medical school and become a doctor. He is currently in his 4th year of medical school at the University of Kansas School of Medicine.
We first met Nate several years ago when his church, Fellowship of the Rockies in Pueblo, Colorado, went to Thoman, Haiti on a mission trip. Nate quickly realized there were thousands of people in the villages above Thoman who had no access to medical care and little access to the gospel. Many of them were unable to get to our full-time clinic in Thoman, especially for regular medical care.
Nate secured a grant from the University of Kansas School of Medicine to conduct a survey of the villages above Thoman. For weeks, Nate and his Haitian translator, Jonas, walked over the mountains, conducted the formal survey, and discovered 19 villages and over 7,000 people.
Nate then devised a plan in which we would hire a full-time Haitian doctor, nurse, and team leader. This team would travel in a 4-wheel ATV each week to the same 4 villages that are centrally located and accessible to all 19 mountain villages.
Last week, Nate’s plan became reality. He spent a week in Thoman preparing the medical team and conducting the first clinics. As I told Nate, “God gave you the dream; you did tremendous research by walking through the mountains surveying each village; you secured the ATV; you hired the team; you purchased the medicine; and you have now seen the plan become reality. So many lives are going to be positively affected by this work, both now and forever.”

A Beautiful Thing
Nate summed up the week this way:
“The village leaders were so excited to see us there after a year of delays due to security issues and COVID. I think down deep they didn’t believe it would happen. I don’t blame them for being somewhat skeptical after decades of politicians promising help and not delivering. It felt good to deliver on what we had agreed to do. I think the good will this has brought in these villages will provide many opportunities to share the gospel in the future.”
Finally…
