No Rain…
Pastor Mathurin of Thoman, Haiti shared with me this afternoon that there has been no rain in Thoman and the surrounding villages for two months. As a result, most of the crops have failed.
Difficult Situation
The lack of rain has complicated an already complicated situation. First, there has been ongoing civil unrest. Second, the COVID-19 virus hit Haiti. Both of these situations damaged the supply chains and made food more scarce for both Thoman and Galette Chambon. The scarcity of food drove up the prices. People in the countryside are already desperately poor and have been unable to purchase enough food for their families.
What We Have Done
As I shared several days ago, we have conducted food distributions recently in Thoman and Galette Chambon. In addition, I sent funds today to Pastor Mathurin from Colonial Heights Baptist Church in Ridgeland, MS for another food distribution. This will be a huge help, but now there are more hungry people due to the crop failures.
What We Can Do
We do not want to make people dependent upon us for a continual supply of food. That would be inconsistent with our goal of creating sustainable communities. However, in unusual circumstances we want to help hungry people.
BGM can purchase food for the hungry families in our villages. If we have the funds, we can make a big difference in the lives of hungry men, women, and children. We can truly share the love of Christ with some of the poorest people in the world.
Also, if you are able to give, you can know that 100% of your donation will go to purchase food. Moreover, we have the organizational structure in place to make proper food distributions. Our full-time BGM employees – Pastor Mathurin and Kenterson in Thoman, Vladimir and the Committee in Galette Chambon – know how to acquire the food, determine who needs it the most, and coordinate the distributions.
